What is a Professional Body?

A Professional Body is an organisation that represents, regulates, and advances a specific profession by establishing professional standards, promoting ethical practice, recognising professional designations, supporting continuing professional development (CPD), and protecting both practitioners and the public.

The Role of SAAHSP

The South African Association of Health and Skincare Professionals (SAAHSP) is the recognised professional body representing the Health, Skincare, Somatology, Beauty Therapy, Aesthetic Therapy, Nail Technology, and related wellness professions in South Africa.

SAAHSP is responsible for:

Establishing and maintaining professional standards.
Promoting ethical conduct and professional accountability.
Awarding and managing professional designations.
Supporting Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Recognising qualified practitioners.
Providing industry representation and advocacy.
Protecting the interests of both practitioners and the public.

SAQA Recognition and Professional Designations

SAAHSP is the only professional body within the South African Health and Skincare profession that is recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) to confer and manage professional designations for practitioners within this sector.

As a SAQA-recognised professional body, SAAHSP operates within the framework of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and is authorised to evaluate, register, and maintain professional designations that recognise the qualifications, competence, experience, and professional standing of practitioners.

Professional designations provide formal recognition of an individual’s professional status and commitment to maintaining industry standards.
