SAAHSP is a Non Profit Organisation serving its members and the Skin, Body, and Nail Care Profession and Industry as the Professional Body in South Africa. SAAHSP is legally constituted to protect the Public Interest in relation to services provided.
The organisation will develop, award, monitor and revoke Professional Designations and regulate Continual Professional Development (CPD);

THE OBJECTIVES
- To maintain a dynamic organisation that aims to foster professionalism and unity in the industry;
- To enhance educational and practising standards at all levels in the industry in accordance with national and international trends, needs and developments;
- To co-operate and liaise with all participants in the beauty, health and skin care industry ensuring the maintenance of the highest standards of ethical conduct;
- Formulate scopes of practise at all levels and lobby to protect the future growth and development of the beauty, health and skincare industry;
- Develop the appropriate structures or committees to fulfil the role of the Professional Body.
Timeline of SAIHBTh/SAAHSP
- 5 September 1972 – Christine du Raan convened the first meeting at Braamfontein Hotel.
- 7 September 1972 – First governing body was formed.
- 7-8 September 1973 – First Congress at La Crete Hotel, Uvongo Beach, Natal.
- 18-19 May 2003 – 28th and final Congress at Caesars Palace, Gauteng.
- 2003 – Mark Maloney took over SAAHSP Congresses under the "Professional Beauty" brand.
- SAIHBTh became a CIDESCO Section, initiated by Christine du Raan, with assistance from Lou and Rolf Kayser.
- 1 April 1977 – Jeanette Annandale appointed as first secretary (served until 1999).
- 1977 – Government announced registration for Masseurs/Masseuses; Beauty Therapists eventually permitted to continue performing massages.
- 1978 – Listed in Johannesburg Directory.
- 1979 – Office established at 101 MacKay Chambers, Blairgowrie.
- 1981 – Mrs. Hester Niemand employed full-time, assisted by Jeanette Annandale (part-time).
- 1989 – Prue Seels appointed for education matters. Later, Valarie Balt was appointed.
- CIDESCO and SAIHBTh names and emblems were officially registered to protect members from exploitation and misrepresentation.
- 1983 – "Beauty Buzz Magazine" launched by Shirley Gelb (Karon).
- 1992 – Beauty Buzz renamed "Professionelle Magazine" (full-color).
- September 2001 – Nadine De Freitas took over publishing of Professionelle Magazine.
- 2003 – Mark Maloney took over and rebranded it "The Professional Beauty Magazine".
- CIDESCO South Africa split into Sections "A" and "B".
- 25 May 1988 – Reunification ratified at CIDESCO World Congress in Australia.
- 1988 – SAIHBTh syllabus & school recognition rules established. Linda Jackson became the first Education Chair.
- 1990 – Alison Yammin took over as Education Chair (served for 10 years).
- 2000 – Tracy Chambers elected as Education Chair.
- 1992 – Helene Bramwell became the first South African to serve on the CIDESCO board.
- 1995 (22-24 September) – First CIDESCO Congress in Africa held at Sun City ("Beyond the Epidermis").
- 2000 – Helene Bramwell elected CIDESCO President for two terms.
- 2015 (May) – 63rd CIDESCO Congress held in South Africa ("Skin is Alive").
- SAIHBTh officially changed its name to:
"The South African Association of Health and Skincare Professionals (SAAHSP)." - Four flowers in logo represented four branches:
- Transvaal
- Cape Province
- Natal
- Orange Free State
- 16 August 2001 – PAB achieved ETQA (Education & Training Quality Assurance) status.
- One of only five private companies accredited by SAQA.
- Later transferred to new owners and closed down.
- Allied Health Professions Council lobbied for massage therapists, aromatherapists, and reflexologists to register.
- SAAHSP chose not to register as it would restrict practitioners from working in retail.
- SAAHSP and SABA (South African Beauty Association) merged.
- Represented industry at Service SETA Board under Skills Development & Levy Act.
- April 2007 – Beauty Health and Skincare Employers Association (BHSEA) inaugurated.
- 19 March 2013 – SAAHSP awarded Professional Body Status by SAQA.

SAAHSP Qualification & QCTO Accreditation
- SAAHSP became a Quality Assurance Partner (QAP) for QCTO.
- Accredits providers offering National Diploma: Health and Skincare (Qualification 58310).
